About Me

To see the world in a grain of sand, and to see heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hands, and eternity in an hour. ("Auguries of Innocence", William Blake - 1757 - 1827)

I work with reclaimed timbers and green woods (timber which had not yet dried and seasoned) to produce a large range of furniture, furnishings and wood-turnings which are suitable for almost any situ whether it be a cottage, newly built home, office or gallery.
Wood is one of the oldest building materials known and has been used to build fleets & empires yet is also one of the most widely used artists materials and has been used for almost every purpose imaginable. This medium offers limitless possibilities for items which are not only practical but beautiful.

I am self taught in woodwork after deciding that neither the forestry training I had completed nor the 7 years as a chef was what I wanted to do. My current work started and evolved through an interest in hand crafted jewellery, the 4.5 hours I used to spend on a tiny hand carved and polished necklace has given me an eye for the fine details and a passion and patience for the materials rarely taught in a classroom. Much of the wood I use is rejected by many other people, in fact I tend to look for the bits nobody else wants because because they believe it offers too many obstacles and can be difficult to work with. Often a few hours will be spent just looking at the wood before deciding what will be made with it. Most woodworkers would design a piece and cut the wood to suit the furniture, my wood tells me what it wants to be and great care is taken before committing to the 1st cut to try and ensure that the most beauty is revealed and the essence of the original nature of the tree is preserved. Much of the wood was cut or felled by myself and I take great delight in being able to choose the type or shape of wood that I desire straight from the tree.
I am happy to work with almost any wood and if you have a tree which has been felled or needs felling I am happy to work with you on the the best way for it to be cut, or what may be possible to do with it. Alternatively, if you have just a plank or even small chunk that has a meaning to you then I can work with you to produce an item that has meaning and is unique to you.
